A Carnival at the Atlanta Day Shelter.
Published November 2, 2008
Sara and I went to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children with a group from church to spend some time with the kids and play with them as a post-Halloween carnival. You know, to “brighten their day”. Everyone in the group (mostly married couples) organized little games or activities for the kids to play. Face painting, mini-bowling, etc.
Since Sara and I had to come up with an activity to play with the kids, I thought a nice “game” would be to take the kid’s picture with their mom and then print the photo right there “on the spot”. So I brought my camera, mi printer, laptop, etc.
Sara picked the best photos and printed them while I went around shooting. I would shoot batches of 15~20 pictures, then I’d go to where Sara was and downloaded the batch for her to print. We brought some nice glossy 5×7 paper. It was a good process until the camera stopped working with the laptop.. bummer.
Anyways, the kids really liked it.. and the moms loved it! I bet most of them (the moms) have very few photos of their kids. I was glad it all turned out pretty good. In fact we may be repeating the “game” during the christmas days, except this time we’ll take some Santa pictures!
Most of the photos are candids even though I tried to take some regular posed shots; but I should know better how kids are and won’t stay still.
